I WISH A WOLF WOULD!

On a very cold day in 2020, I was out for a walk. On this particular day, I was talking to God, asking questions and lamenting about the season of life I was in. And in the middle of my lamenting and being all in my feelings, Psalms 23 came to my remembrance. The fourth verse was highlighted to me, and it reads even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me".  I grew up reading this scripture. It is one of the passages that my father made me and my sisters memorize but it was like I heard it for the first time!

I heard God say, “I got you, why do you think I have a rod and a staff”? And then…it hit me like a brick! The rod was to guide me AND the staff was to protect me (from whatever was on assignment to harm me)! WHOA!!  But here is the bigger revelation! Not only is God light in the darkness and a guide when we are lost but He is also protector. And He uses both rod and staff to protect us, like the good shepherd that is not scared to use his weapons against a wolf or any other predator (warlock or witch on assignment) that comes to devour his flock!  He is the Great Shepherd who never sleeps and never retreats!

In the hands of our great Shepherd, the rod and the staff are not just tools of guidance—they are instruments of absolute defense. The holy boldness that comes from knowing we are being watched over by a God that far exceeds any threat is enough to make me want to run! We can walk with our heads held high, not because we are strong enough to fight the wolves ourselves, but because we are so well-guarded that the wolves don't stand a chance. The victory is ours!
